The PRS 513 line of guitars is always popular in the UK and that is true at the moment as well.  Paul Reed Smith really focused on versatility with this guitar.  The number of sound options is incredible with the choice of using 5 different pickups for a total of 13 different sounds.

You’ve got the 5 way blade pickups and the 3 way mode selectors.  So we are talking sounds like heavy humbucking to clear humbucking and even single coil sounds.

Paul Reed Smith’s website says that the original version of this guitar isn’t being made in the factory anymore, but they are making some anniversary models, in addition to the swamp ash one.  Maybe that is why people are buying these models so much?  I want to play another PRS 513 as soon as possible because it feels so good to have a range of high quality sound options and they are damn cool looking too (that always helps)!

There are at least 3 different PRS 513 models in the official catalog and you can even find some additional rare gems on Ebay.  Keep your eyes open to spot some cool configurations that I know probably exist out there.

The PRS 513 is made from mahogany/maple and comes in over 20 different colors with my favorites being orange, scarlet red and blue matteo.

The PRS 513 Swamp Ash is made from swamp ash and is available in black, mccarty tobbaco sur, natural, powder blue, seafoam green, tri-color sunburst, vintage cherry, vintage neutral and vintage sunburst.  The PRS 513 Swamp Ash has a special ash wood which gives it an alternate look and sound compared to the normal 513 model.  I can totally see this being my next guitar.

The PRS 25th Anniversary 513 made from mahogany and carved figure maple which offers a slightly different sound configuration from the standard 513.  It comes in the following totally exotic colors: angry larry, charcoal burst, fire red burst, matteo mist, sapphire smokeburst, smokeburst, smoked amber and smoked black slate.

The PRS Custom 22/12 is an ultra cool 12 string electric guitar made from mahogany and maple.  The PRS 22/12 offers a versatile pickup arrangement and is available in over 20 different colors, including my personal favorite whale blue.  This guitar is definitely a 12 string, but plays like a 6 string so I like to think of it as a hybrid that lets you get the best of both worlds.

The PRS 22 line of guitars is insanely popular in the UK right now and there are many reasons why that is.  First is the broad spectrum of available models, colors and configurations that exist with the PRS 22 line of guitars.  For example there’s the famous PRS SE Custom 22, one of the most loved guitars on Ebay.  And who could forget the gorgeous PRS Sunburst 22 or the PRS Satin 22 guitars; those two axes are delicious to look at and play.

These guitars are no longer being produced, which explains why they are in such high demand at the moment.  In fact as I’m reading this I want nothing more than to play another PRS 22 as soon as possible!  Yeah, they are that damn good.

The Paul Reed Smith Santana guitar is one of the most popular and oldest models of guitars that PRS has made.  There are multiple models and each Santana guitar type comes with its own unique construction and history.  The history of these types of PRS axes is very unique.  Paul Reed Smith met Carlos Santana backstage and Carlos got to experience a guitar that Paul had built up close and personal.  This started a life long relationship that helped mold Paul’s future and the PRS guitar company as well.

In the 1990′s Santana wanted a guitar that could do it all, or be “Multi-Dimensional” as he wanted it to produce all different kinds of colors of sound.  Paul Reed Smith was successful are creating this awesome and historic instrument, with Santana’s seal of approval.

There are several different types of PRS Santana guitars, namely the Santana MD, Santana SE, Santana Abraxas and Santana 25th Anniversary models.  While each one is unique and awesome in its own way, all of them have a Carlos flavor to them and that’s why they are so popular.

The Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody guitar is a high-end line of electric guitars that come in different models.  Depending on the model the guitar top and back can be made from any combination of maple, spruce or mahogany woods.  The PRS Hollowbody guitars are carved out on the inside and that gives the guitars spectacular acoustic sound qualities such as tone, depth and resonance.  There’s a small block under the bridge that connects the top of the guitar with the back.

An awesome feature available for this type of PRS guitar is the PRS/LR Baggs Piezo System.  This type of system gives you the capability to connect into an amplifier and a recording device simultaneously.  With the patented Baggs system you have a wide range of tones that you can switch into.

Is there anything special about the PRS Hollowbody guitar that I should know?
Alex Lifeson (the guitarist for Rush) found out about a 12 string version of the PRS Hollowbody when you stumbled upon one by chance during a Rush album recording.  He was so impressed that he called the factory and asked them to make him one.

Paul Reed Smith (often referred to as simply PRS) electric guitars are among the best quality instruments that you can play.  The PRS company is headquartered in Stevensville, MD, USA.  A guitarist named Paul Reed Smith (surprise huh) started the company back in 1985 and the company has been creating world-class guitars ever since.  The guitars are highly rated by musicians and guitar collectors.

What makes PRS guitars so unique and generally 100% awesome?

First there’s the wonderful tone that every PRS guitar puts out.  What’s the difference between a regular guitar and a great guitar?  In my opinion it’s the tone and that’s where all Paul Reed Smith models excel as high-end instruments.

Second there’s the playability of the PRS guitars.  Since the construction of the instrument is so solid and intelligently laid out, it totally makes playing the guitar easier and funner too honestly.  Make no mistake about it.  PRS guitars are made of strong, sturdy materials that are both built to last and produce a superb sound in your amplifier.

Last but not least the beauty of PRS guitars is nothing short of magnificent.  I know that your opinion of what type of guitar looks good can depend on your style but Paul Reed Smith puts forth a strong effort to make their instruments shine with glory.

What types of materials are PRS guitars made out of?

The typical construction of PRS guitars is to use mahogony for the guitar and maple for the top.  The neck of a PRS guitar is usually made from either mahogany, maple or rosewood.  PRS fingerboards  are made from rosewood.  PRS guitars have markers (moons and birds) on the frets that act as a signature.

What about other hardware that’s part of the PRS guitar?

Paul Reed Smith makes their own pickups and tremolo.  This allows them to customize the pickups and tremolo system to work perfectly with their guitars.  I think that the pickup construction is amazing because it contributes to that thick wonderful tone of a PRS guitar.

Who plays PRS guitars?

The most popular musician that loves PRS guitars is Carlos Santana, with Dave Navarro coming in a close second.  Both Carlos and Dave along with several other musicians have their own PRS models that you can actually buy.
